- “My son is my hero,” Whitey said. “I look up to him. I can’t even compare myself to him.”
- “He’s the toughest guy I’ve ever seen in uniform,”
- “It feels good that he has confidence in me, but he always does,” Eckstein said. “I talked to him last night. All he had were positive words.”
- When Eckstein was asked what he would do with the trophy, he said, “It’s going home.” Asked to be more specific, Eckstein emphasized, “Oh, it’s going to my parents’ house.”
